SQUASH REFEREE
OPPORTUNITY TO QUALIFY AS AN ENGLAND SQUASH REFEREE
Referee and Rules Courses can be organised within Essex County.
The format of these and the progressions are as follows:
PROVISIONAL AWARD REFEREE
(A County Controlled Award)
This entails attendance at a Referee and Rules Course and the successful completion of a written refereeing examination
COUNTY GRADE REFEREE
(An England Squash Grade)
To qualify as a County Grade Referee candidates must:
1 Attend an England Squash Referee and Rules Lecture, given by an ES Instructor or Staff Instructor.
2 Acquire practical experience in local internal and inter club matches, early rounds of the County Closed and similar events.
3 Pass a written refereeing examination.
4 Be assessed in local matches. The normal minimum is three assessments in matches of a suitable difficulty, at least one of which must be carried out by a ‘T’ Grade Referee.
TOURNAMENT GRADE REFEREE
(An England Squash Grade)
To qualify as a Tournament Grade Referee candidates should:
1 Have had in general a minimum of two years working as a County Grade Referee
2 Pass an oral examination conducted by a Referee Instructor.
3 Be assessed in a minimum of three matches at an England Squash event or the semis or finals of the County Closed or County Open.
4 The candidate is also required to keep an ongoing record of refereeing undertaken over at least the previous six months. Log sheets are available from the Essex SRA co-ordinator or England Squash. These logs together with the assessments should be forwarded to the County Association for their approval.
5 On receipt of the letter giving County approval England Squash will issue a Tournament Grade Certificate to the successful candidate/s

ENGLAND SQUASH COACH LICENCE SCHEME
The aims of the Coach Licence Scheme are:
- To set a kite mark for the coaching of squash in England
- To encourage coaches to be as up to date as possible by fostering professional and personal development through training opportunities
The aim is to promote the highest standards of coaching to protect players from poor practice and to guarantee a ‘service threshold’. The ambition is for ALL practising coaches to become a licensed coach.
To gain your Coach Licence you must have completed the following
- Be a current Coaching Member of England Squash
- Have valid £10m Public Liability Insurance (the Coach Membership entitles you to this)
- Hold an England Squash Coaching Qualification
- Attend a Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop. Valid for three years only
- Successfully complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check, which MUST be completed through England Squash and is valid for three years only
- Supply England Squash with your current CV
Once you are licensed you need to obtain ONE credit each year to keep your licence current. Attendance at one of the Workshops run by ESRA or England Squash OR attending a R & M Course OR attendance at a Coaching Course will count as a credit.
ALL COACHES ARE ENCOURAGED TO BECOME LICENSED AS MANY CLUBS AND SPORT CENTRES WILL NOT EMPLOY YOU UNLESS YOU HOLD A COACH LICENCE

WORKSHOPS RUN WITHIN THE COUNTY
A number of workshops can be run to meet demands.
There will also be a Coaching Conference held each year which will give one credit towards the licence.
Workshops may include:
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children
- Equity in Your Coaching
- First Aid Course (3 hrs)
- Mini Squash Workshop
- Skills and Drills for Advanced Players
